During the meeting, the parties discussed the activities of the Ombudsman institution and the measures being undertaken to protect the rights and legitimate interests of citizens. They also exchanged views on the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan in the field of human rights and the positive results being achieved.
The meeting emphasized the importance of the participation of civil society institutions in the activities of the Ombudsman, as well as the relevance of initiatives aimed at increasing public legal awareness and strengthening knowledge and skills in the field of human rights.
Maria Telalian, Director of the OSCE ODIHR, positively assessed the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan and acknowledged the progress achieved in ensuring human rights in the country. Referring to the activities of the Ombudsman, she noted the significance of strengthening the legislative framework regulating the institution’s activities and highlighted the importance of its priority areas, including the protection of human rights, the prevention of torture, and ensuring open dialogue with the public.
She also expressed readiness to exchange experience in the field of human rights protection, further develop mutual cooperation, and implement joint initiatives.
