A Support Center for Women and Children launched in Fergana
On 31 October 2025, the opening ceremony of the “Support Center for Women and Children” (shelter) was held under the NGO “Mehrjon.” The center was built within the framework of the project “Strengthening the Rule of Law and the Protection of Human Rights in Uzbekistan,” implemented in cooperation with the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Oliy Majlis, the Ministry of Justice, and UNDP’s Country Office in Uzbekistan.

The new shelter will not only provide temporary accommodation for survivors of violence, but also offer psychological, social, and legal assistance. The center also aims to resolve family disputes, support survivors’ reintegration into society, and promote the social participation of women and children.

Speakers at the event noted that cooperation between the state and society in the protection of human rights—particularly in the comprehensive support of women—is steadily strengthening in our country.

Systemic protection mechanisms are being created and consistently improved to prevent violence, detect cases early, and provide assistance to survivors. To this end, legislation on protecting women and children from violence has been improved, and administrative and criminal liabilities have been strengthened.

Since 2025, the Ombudsman has launched the “Equality and Respect” platform. Through this platform, efforts are under way nationwide to ensure gender equality, comprehensively support women who have experienced violence, review and resolve their appeals, and inform women about available opportunities and benefits.

The launch of the “Support Center for Women and Children” is a vivid example of effective cooperation between state bodies, international organizations, and the non-governmental sector in the field of human rights. This initiative is another important step toward elevating human dignity and building a violence-free society.
