Beware: Fraudsters are deceiving citizens under the guise of law enforcement authorities – Ombudsman
A citizen, M.P., applied to the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman), stating that due to his own negligence and credulity, he had been deprived of a large sum of money.

In his complaint, M.P. reported that in December 2024, under the influence of individuals who introduced themselves as employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service, and the Central Bank, he transferred USD 170,000 through cryptocurrency. To this end, he sold his car and house, lost his savings, and even went into debt.

In December 2024, M.P. officially filed a complaint with the Cybersecurity Center, a criminal case was initiated, and he was recognized as a victim.

In order to clarify the circumstances stated in the complaint, the Ombudsman appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

As a result of the joint examination of the case, the Cybersecurity Department recovered USD 115,000 (1,434,625,000 UZS) from “Crypto Store” in favor of M.P.

The Ombudsman receives many complaints related to fraud; however, in most cases, it is impossible to recover the lost funds. This requires citizens to exercise vigilance and take preventive measures.

In this regard, the Ombudsman urges citizens to pay serious attention to the following:

  • Do not trust individuals who introduce themselves as law enforcement or bank employees but call from personal numbers and demand payment or information;

  • Never disclose personal data by phone, including passport or ID card details, bank card numbers, PIN codes, or SMS codes;

  • If unknown persons urge you to make payments via cryptocurrency, immediately stop such actions and contact law enforcement authorities;

  • State bodies, agencies, and organizations carry out their activities only through official channels. In case of doubt, verify the information using the trusted phone numbers of the relevant authority.

The Ombudsman calls on citizens to be legally aware and vigilant above all.
