This matter was taken under the control of the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman).

The Regional Representative of the Ombudsman in Bukhara Region conducted an on-site review of the case in accordance with the Law “On the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman)”. During the review, an individual interview was held with the person referred to in the report, the conditions of his detention were examined, the allegations set out in the report were reviewed, and the presence or absence of bodily injuries was assessed.

It was established that a preliminary investigation had been initiated in relation to certain employees of Pre-Trial Detention Facility No. 4. A forensic medical examination of the person referred to in the report has also been ordered.

The documents collected during the review were transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office of Bukhara Region for consideration in accordance with the procedural requirements of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Within the scope of its mandate, the Ombudsman will monitor the results of the investigation into this matter.
